If you're looking for a place to relax with your family, and one of your family members walks on four legs, look no further than St. Simons Island, Georgia. There are plenty of biking and walking trails, outdoor areas to explore, and places that welcome you and your pooch! There's nothing better than taking a vacation with the whole family, Fido included.
Take advantage of the beaches! After Labor Day and up to Memorial Day, dogs may be leashed or unleashed on the beach, as long as they are under your immediate control. In the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day), dogs are permitted on the beaches in the early morning (before 9 am) and in the evenings (after 6 pm) on the beach in front of the resort. Dogs are allowed any time of day to the north of the Coast Guard Station, which also happens to have the biggest public parking lot and beach access on the island.
Not many places are this relaxed when it comes to pets, so take advantage of these no-leash beaches! From running in the sand to splashing around in the water, there is no shortage of fun to be had.
If you're looking for something away from the water, St. Simons Island offers plenty of dog-friendly activities! There are several restaurants with outdoor seating that welcome dogs. Stop by Iguanas Seafood, Sandcastle Café and Grill, or Southern Soul Barbeque for a bite and some quality relaxation time. With the wonderful weather on the island, you can walk around and find many places that weclome everyone, even your furry friend. Take advantage of the sunshine and island air!
St. Simons Island also features the Frederica Park Dog Park. With spaces for big and small dogs alike, and benches for you to lay back while your pup runs around, it's a great place to hang out and enjoy the day. What's better than a stretch of grass, a dog, and a ball while you relax on a beautiful island?
If you'd like to pamper your faithful friend with a "resort" experience of his or her own, Tailwaggers of St. Simons Island is at your service. Tailwaggers provides dog day play, dog training, "The Paw Hotel", and "Tailwashers Spa". Daycare is a great option during the summer - your dog can meet new friends and/or enjoy a spa treatment while you enjoy a beach day (from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, dogs are not allowed on the beach between 9am and 6pm). Contact Tailwaggers (open seven days a week) at 912-268-4361, or visit www.IslandTailwaggers.com.
And when you're ready to curl up in bed for the night, you and Fido can come back to one of the dog-friendly accommodations at The King and Prince to relax and enjoy your vacation. We are happy to welcome your dog in your vacation experience, and we will help you make everyone's experience enjoyable and safe!
